Scope of Work:

Shaft Sinking

The Appin Mine, located in Menangle, New South Wales, is part of GM3’s extensive coal operations. Redpath’s role involves the design and construction of two significant ventilation shafts.

The project includes a 7.5m diameter, 590m deep downcast shaft (VS7) and a 5.55m 
diameter, 560m deep upcast shaft (VS8), both constructed using drill-and-blast blind-
sinking techniques to ensure precision and safety. Delivered under a design-and-construct contract, the scope includes full responsibility for safety compliance, design, 
winder supply and registration, surface construction and the sinking of the shafts.
