The Venetia Mine, located in Limpopo, South Africa,
is one of De Beers’ premier diamond operations,
transitioning from open-pit to underground mining.
Redpath’s involvement was crucial in establishing
sub-level caving infrastructure and ensuring
seamless operation under an alliance-style contract.

Redpath’s responsibilities at Venetia include the complex development of a sub-level cave mine,
supporting De Beers’ transition to a fully underground operation. The project features an extensive
skills transfer program aimed at building local workforce capability through an Integrated Operating
Team.

Utilising Redpath’s expertise in mine development, the team provides specialised training
and implements best practices in safe production and underground infrastructure. Redpath’s
collaborative approach ensures that the Venetia Mine maintains high standards in safety,
production efficiency, and local workforce development, reinforcing De Beers’ commitment to
sustainable mining.
